2 Exene's Blog Politics Is Politics, No Matter Who The Players

The buzz in the news all this week was Senator Barack Obama's trip through Europe - and more specifically, his speech in Berlin. The pictures of him speaking and waving to the huge crowds sure looked good, did they not? Very appealing and convincing, which is just what Obama had hoped they would do for his image. But in a different time period, a group of (then unpopular) German politicians got together and launched a similar speech campaign through their country. This group specifically selected... 3 Exene's Blog So Many People Have Problems
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-19 11:44:50.

I think this is so very true. There is another site that I visit, it has a certain number of fairly young people on it. I was looking at this one girl's listing of personal stories on the site; she had a bunch of them where she talked about 'trying to cut herself', 'feeling lost' and 'sometimes wanting to die'. YIKES! The reason why it affected me is because she claims to be just seventeen. I wonder if today's teens really are struggling in ways that previous generations did not; teenage years are... No comments

4 Exene's Blog Sometimes I Just Want To Scream
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-18 14:04:12.

...because I seem to draw a lot of attention to myself and I really do not want or need it. There are always people around me; at work it is the worst but even my 'private time' at home is often spoiled by my pestering roommate. I feel like I don't get enough time to myself; I feel like there's always someone watching me and it's enough to make anybody go berserk. Everybody is hanging around, loitering, talking, making tons of noise... too bad we can't rent our own planets once in awhile. Maybe I am just a bit too sensitive... but no matter, I really want to scream sometimes. No comments

5 Exene's Blog A Little Village In France
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-18 13:56:36.

BBC news did a story last night, about a little village in France where 124 people were killed by the Germans during WWII. A German will be investigating the tragic incident, to try and find out who it was that gave the command to the soldiers. Back during this time, the German military wanted to take over Europe and eventually the world; the soldiers were very cold-hearted, they did not care who they hurt or who they killed, they just wanted to win. The only good thing that may come out of opening... No comments

6 Exene's Blog English Is A Germanic Language
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-16 17:14:34.

With all of the controversy that still goes along with discussing anything about Germany these days, I sometimes wonder if people ever think about the fact that most of the European continent was Germanic in the early-to-middle Ages. English is derived from German; 'middle German' eventually turned into 'old English' and that's where 'modern English' is from. Several Germanic early tribes migrated from the central German plains to form their own communities and cultures; that's where we get Dutch,... No comments

7 Exene's Blog Madame Blavatsky
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-16 14:18:18.

Some time ago, I read a book that talked about the turn-of-the-century pan-German movement that took place in parts of Germany and Austria. One of the people the author featured in his work was Madame HP Blavatsky. She was born in the Ukraine in 1831, and was largely known as an adventurist and an occultist. She travelled extensively to diverse places, including Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, Egypt, France, Germany, India and Canada; she did a lot of work in Germany and England, and became a US citizen... 8 Exene's Blog My Third Eye Is On The Grave

Assuming that I live to be fifty (nothing is certain, in this regard), I plan on arranging for my own funeral at this time because it is the responsible thing to do. I already know where I want to be buried (the same cemetery as my brother); also I want to be able to pick out my own coffin, and pay for the ceremony myself. I refuse to burden my family (or the state, or anyone else) with the task of 'picking up the tab' when I die; I don't particularly want to have a wake, just bury me quickly and... No comments

9 Exene's Blog Most People Are Not Remembered
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-09 16:45:43.

When we think about the things we face in our day-to-day lives, we tend to get so caught up in all the problems... but when we think about how many people have lived on this planet before us (people that are no longer remembered), it might help keep things in perspective. We tend to see today's world as a big deal, only because we are living in it; we don't think about the world of a hundred (or a thousand) years ago because we were not present at that time (or at least not as who we are today).... 10 Exene's Blog Someday We Will All Be Ashes
Posted by Exene on 2008-07-09 14:54:12.

Here is something I have been wanting to say for quite some time... You know I study German history quite often, I like reading about the Jena Romantic Circle of the late 18th century that had people like Schelling and the brothers Schlegel among its members. The fascinating thing is this: back in their day, they were considered geniuses, because their thoughts and theories were original, they questioned the status quo and took the German intellectual experience to a higher level. Nowadays we look... No comments
